![]() One of them said that if a car has one brake to control four brakes, why shouldn’t a bicycle. I watched a couple videos about it to understand what it’s doing. Given that this is a horrible product it will be out of the market soon and replacement parts will be impossible to find. Replace the brake with a proper two lever system and teach her how to stop properly. This keeps them from the “end over end” crash that this product is badly trying to avoid. Also, your primary brake is the front, but riders need to learn that when they use the front hard that they need to push their butt into their saddle. Your brakes shouldn’t slide as it slows the braking. I think I want to get one of these setups and try it on an old bike. This product restored his ability to make use of the front brake without fear. One reported getting the bike after a kid braked too hard with the front brake on a different bike and flipped, and was scared to use his front brake at all after that. The reviews of the kids bikes generally rave about the brakes. One review, however, on the Kent, reports needing to use the brake system in an emergency and having it work perfectly. The reviews of the adult bikes mostly complain about the brakes being confusing/difficult to adjust. ![]() The patent says it provides a 70:30 front:rear split on initial braking, increasing to 80:20 upon full-force application. That's not great, but it does accomplish something different from what the two-cable lever does.Įdit: I got curious and looked up the patent and read some reviews on Amazon of some of the bikes that use it, searching for the keyword "brake". In the real world, it will make riders without that skill safer: able to brake faster or able to avoid going over the bars. Ideally, that would be of no use, because every rider would learn to use the front brake effectively. It seems that so far, what it's able to achieve is a way to make it impossible to lock the front wheel and throw yourself over the bars, while still braking better than would be achieved with the rear brake only. However, the manufacturer's own web page says that it is not as good as a skilled operator of conventional brakes. So I don't think it should be dismissed without a more careful look. But something like this could, in principle, do better in some situations. It could be set up for a reasonable fixed ratio, and do okay, for sure. Or just plain r/bicycling, which also has links to more subs.Ī single brake lever operating both brakes directly is not able to adjust the ratio of force braking on the two wheels to adapt to the conditions and do as well as possible.
